Quickie Contest - Shopgirl Movie Passes

A bluestate first: we're giving away movie passes. The movie: Shopgirl, based on the Steve Martin novella and starring Steve Martin, Clare Danes and Jason Schwartzman.

The screening is Monday, October 24 at Loews Georgetown. The movie starts at 7:30, but get there early to secure your seat. We have 10 passes to give away (each pass admits two) courtesy of Filter.

If you would like to win a pass, send an e-mail with the subject line "Shopgirl" to bluestatedc @ gmail.com by noon on Thursday, October 20. We'll notify the winners by 5:00 p.m., and you can pick up your pass when you come to Gate 54 @ Cafe Saint-Ex for that evening's bluestate event.

P.S. The music connection, if you're wondering, is that Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon) has a role in the movie.

Enter to Win -- Suffrajett EP + Bonus

This week, enter to win an EP from Suffrajett. You can stream some of the EP tracks here, and check out this description from their official bio:

Suffrajett push out sliced-from-the-bone rock and roll – thoroughly hook-driven (via grunge), but a bit dirty and dark. It’s atop this devil's food music that Simi thickly spreads her sugary pop-styled, Joan Jett-fucking-Lenny Kravitz vocals. The gigs are devastating and everyone falls in love with Simi the striking exotic hypnotic wailer (think Grace Jones meets Deborah Harry).

We'll have four winners this week. Each winner will also get a limited edition Giant Step mobile card, which gives you access to ringtones, wallpaper for your cell phone and chances to win all sorts of prizes.

To enter this contest, courtesy of Giant Step, send an e-mail to bluestatedc @ gmail.com with “Suffrajett” in the subject line by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 20. We’ll notify the winners on Friday. Good luck!

And congratulations to Rachel from Lauderhill, Fla., who won the autographed Giant Drag CD.
